PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has commended the Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) for swiftly seizing a container at Tanjung Pelepas Port (PTP), Johor, suspected of carrying strategic goods for export to Israel.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said the seizure demonstrated Malaysia’s determination to ensure the country did not become a transit point for trade that could support or contribute to what he described as the Israeli regime’s actions against the Palestinian people.
“Congratulations to MCBA for its swift action in seizing a container suspected of carrying strategic goods for export to Israel at Tanjung Pelepas Port.
“This action demonstrates Malaysia’s firm resolve to ensure that our country never becomes a conduit for trade that could support or contribute to the atrocities committed by the Israeli regime against the Palestinian people.
“It is also in line with Malaysia’s commitment under The Hague Group, as well as the ban that has been in force since December 2023 prohibiting Israeli vessels and vessels carrying cargo to Israel from using the country’s ports.”
Anwar said Malaysia would continue to uphold the principles of humanity, justice and international law in defending the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people.
Earlier, MCBA said it had detained and inspected a container at PTP on Friday (Aug 7) after suspecting that it contained goods intended for export to Israel.
The agency said the shipment was suspected of contravening Item No. 15 of the Second Schedule of the Customs (Prohibition of Exports) Order 2023, which prohibits the direct or indirect export of goods to Israel in accordance with the Malaysian Government’s policy and decisions.
The seizure highlights Malaysia’s continued enforcement of restrictions on trade involving Israel and its efforts to prevent prohibited shipments from passing through the country. - August 9, 2026
