A POLICE constable has been detained after drugs worth RM18,534 were found in the lock-up at Lumut police station in Manjung, raising questions over how the substances were brought into the police facility.
The constable, who is in his 30s, was detained following an inspection by the Manjung district police headquarters at about 8.30am on Tuesday.
Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the inspection also led to two men, both persons under arrest (OKT), being detained after various types of drugs were found in their possession.
“The seizure involved 16 plastic tube packets suspected to contain 109.54 grammes of methamphetamine, 16 packets of heroin weighing 110.37 grammes, and 23 packets of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis weighing 142.31 grammes.
“The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM18,534,” he said at a press conference held in conjunction with the 2026 Perak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) Drug and Kratom Case Disposal Ceremony at the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) in Ipoh on Thursday.
Mohd Alwi said checks found that the constable, who was stationed at Lumut Police Station, had no previous criminal record and had tested negative for drugs.
He said police were investigating how the prohibited substances had been brought into the lock-up.
“The investigation will be conducted transparently and thoroughly to ensure appropriate action is taken based on the facts and evidence obtained,” he said.
He added that preliminary urine screening of the two suspects, both aged about 40, tested positive for methamphetamine.
All those detained have been remanded for seven days until Aug 18 to assist investigations under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
