THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has opened 14 investigation papers and inspected 28 premises, mostly in the Klang Valley, as part of its probe into the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman said three of the six issues raised in the RCI report had been fully investigated after almost two weeks, with recommendations made for charges in some cases while others were classified as no further action (NFA).
The other three issues are now at the final stage of investigation.
A closer look at the RCI report also led investigators to identify eight more issues involving investments, resulting in eight additional investigation papers being opened.
This brings the total to 14 investigation papers.
So far, seven people have been arrested, five of whom were remanded.
“Two of the seven suspects were released on bail due to health reasons,” Abdul Halim said.
He said 115 people had also been called in to have their statements recorded at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
Investigators are also tracing the movement of funds and examining bank and financial statements, as well as contracts, payment records and other documents linked to the cases.
Abdul Halim said the six issues raised in the RCI report remained under investigation, although three had already been concluded.
The eight additional investment matters involve Deru Semangat Sdn Bhd, which operates in the palm oil sector; ABRAJ Sdn Bhd; Putrajaya Perdana Berhad; Al-Raudhah Real Estate; Al-Farida Residential Fund; Tabung Haji Properties Sdn Bhd; Tabung Haji Marine Sdn Bhd; and Tabung Haji Hotel & Residence.
Meanwhile in another development, seven people, including three business operators and four civil servants, were arrested in Sabah on Aug 11 under Ops Chicks over the alleged smuggling of frozen chicken from China and Poland.
All seven have been remanded.
The MACC seized 10 containers worth RM3.9 million and detected suspected tax leakages amounting to RM1.01 million.
Seven mobile phones were also seized, while steps are being taken to freeze the bank accounts of the companies involved.
“The investigation is continuing to identify other individuals involved. The case is being investigated under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009,” Abdul Halim said. - August 13, 2026
