A MALE teacher has been remanded for six days to assist investigations into the alleged sexual assault of a Form Four student at a secondary school in Kuala Terengganu.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said police received a report from the student at about 4.04pm on Aug 12.

He said the student reported that at about 10.15am on Aug 10, while at a secondary school in the district, a male teacher known to the student had allegedly subjected the student to sexual assault.

The student also alleged that the teacher had subjected the student to similar acts several times previously.

“On Aug 13 at about 11.10am, police arrested the suspect, a male teacher who teaches at the school attended by the victim.

“The remand application against the suspect was granted by the Kuala Terengganu Magistrate’s Court, with the six-day remand period running from Aug 14 to 19,” he said.

Azli said an investigation paper had been opened under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

If convicted, the offence carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years and whipping.

He said police were completing the investigation papers before referring the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions.

Azli also advised parents to educate their children from an early age about sexual harassment and monitor their children’s daily movements. - August 16, 2026
