PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an additional RM1 million for every parliamentary constituency nationwide, aimed at ensuring urgent assistance and local development needs can be addressed more quickly at grassroots level.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the additional allocation demonstrated the Madani Government’s commitment to strengthening direct assistance to the people, while stressing that allocations for parliamentary constituencies had never been reduced.
“Allocations have never been reduced. In fact, today I want to announce that for every parliamentary constituency, directly for the people, I am announcing an additional RM1 million for each parliamentary constituency,” he said.
He was delivering his presidential winding-up speech at the 2026 PKR National Congress at the Melaka International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITC), Ayer Keroh, today.
Anwar said the additional funding would enable urgent grassroots needs to be addressed more efficiently, particularly involving welfare assistance, basic amenities and local problems, without excessive bureaucratic processes.
He said the allocation would complement existing social protection programmes, including Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), which have combined allocations of up to RM16 billion.
Anwar said eradicating poverty and easing the burden of the rising cost of living remained among the Government’s key priorities, noting that the extreme poverty rate had fallen to 0.09%.
“The translation of macroeconomic success into microeconomic benefits is through programmes that protect the welfare of the people. Whether B40 or M40, school assistance, Rahmah sales and housing financing support are provided comprehensively without marginalising any race,” he said.
He also urged PKR leaders and party machinery at branch and grassroots levels to intensify their engagement with communities by explaining government initiatives and ensuring that assistance reached those who needed it.
Anwar said stronger grassroots engagement was essential to ensure people were fully aware of the support available and could benefit from the Government’s various assistance programmes. - August 16, 2026
