POLICE have arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of committing an indecent act against a library assistant and stealing RM390 from her at the Padang Siding Village Library near Arau last Wednesday.
Arau district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi said the suspect was arrested by police at noon on Sunday and would be brought before the Kangar Magistrate's Court today for a remand application.
“In initial questioning, the suspect admitted to committing an indecent act against the 37-year-old woman and stealing cash belonging to the victim.
“Following his arrest, police seized a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle, its key and a helmet believed to have been used by the suspect during the incident,” he said.
Ahmad Mohsin said a urine screening test found the suspect positive for methamphetamine, while police checks revealed seven previous records involving offences including drug abuse, theft, trespassing and rape under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
“The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building and Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person,” he said.
Earlier, media reports said the 37-year-old library assistant had endured a frightening ordeal after a man approached her at the library counter and allegedly committed an indecent act.
The victim then fled the library in panic to seek help, with the suspect allegedly taking the opportunity to steal RM390 in cash belonging to her before fleeing. - August 17, 2026
