A moderate 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck the Bali Sea off Indonesia early Tuesday - August 18, 2026

A MODERATE 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck the Bali Sea in Indonesia at 2.10am on Tuesday, but posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia), in a Facebook post, said the epicentre was located at 7.2 degrees south and 117.2 degrees east, about 194 kilometres northeast of Mataram, Indonesia.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 499 kilometres, according to METMalaysia.

The department said there was no tsunami threat to Malaysia following the earthquake. - August 18, 2026
