A TANKER lorry driver has claimed trial over the deaths of a mother and her 12-year-old son in a crash along Jalan Temerloh-Triang last Friday.

Nor Azlan Mahayudin, 37, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court in Temerloh today to two counts under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The two victims, Nur Fatima Syuhada Abdullah, 39, and Muhamad Fattah Aisy Nuafal Saifulnizam, 12, died after their car was crushed by the lorry at KM9 of the road at about 4pm on Aug 14.

Nor Azlan is accused of driving the 32,000-litre fuel tanker in a manner that resulted in the fatal collision.

If convicted, he faces between five and 10 years in prison and a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000.

Magistrate Anis Adlina Abu Johan allowed Nor Azlan bail of RM10,000 for both charges and set Oct 1 for the next mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Amal Razim Alias appeared for the prosecution, while Nor Azlan was represented by Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan lawyer Mazieera Sharifudin.

The crash claimed the lives of the mother and son after their vehicle was struck by the tanker, which was carrying 32,000 litres of fuel.

Initial police investigations found that the accident occurred after the tanker travelling from Seremban to Temerloh skidded and overturned, hitting the car.

Mohd Nasyim previously said that the post-mortem process on the two bodies involved was carried out at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Hospital.

According to him, the burial may not be possible until the results of the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test on the two victims involved are obtained. - August 18, 2026
