PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his condolences to the family of three people killed in a crash involving an Immigration Department truck at Jalan Sultan Ismail early today.
Anwar also ordered the Immigration Department to investigate the incident immediately and thoroughly, saying action must be taken if the probe finds any negligence or breach of the law.
“Condolences to those who lost their lives in this tragic incident.
“I have instructed the Immigration Department to conduct an immediate and comprehensive investigation.”
“If there was negligence or any breach of the law, appropriate action must be taken without compromise,” Anwar said.
Three members of the same family, including a 12-year-old girl, died in the crash at the Maju Junction traffic light intersection.
The victims were a 53-year-old man and his daughters, aged 25 and 12. All three died at the scene.
His 55-year-old wife was injured in the crash, suffering injuries to her head, hands and both legs. She was taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) Red Zone for treatment.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident involved an empty Isuzu truck, two cars and four pedestrians.
He said initial investigations found that the truck was being driven by a 43-year-old man from the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Office, who was heading to Chow Kit to collect detainees following an operation against illegal immigrants.
The truck is believed to have entered the junction while the traffic light was red, with its beacon lights and siren activated.
A car driven by a 50-year-old man was meanwhile travelling straight through the junction when its traffic light was green, before the two vehicles collided.
The truck then lost control and skidded, hitting the four pedestrians and another car driven by a 38-year-old man who was stopped at the junction.
None of the three drivers was injured.
Police have detained the truck driver and the 50-year-old car driver to assist with investigations.
Both tested negative for alcohol and drugs following breathalyser tests and preliminary urine screenings.
Police are also reviewing CCTV footage, looking for independent witnesses and conducting further inspections on the vehicles involved.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – August 19, 2026
