POLICE have recorded a statement from PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang over one of his published articles following reports lodged by DAP supporters, according to PAS assistant secretary-general Syahir Sulaiman.
Syahir said several reports had been lodged against one of Hadi’s articles, prompting police to open an investigation.
“Several reports were made by DAP supporters against one of Hadi’s articles. He (Hadi) gave his statement in Kuala Lumpur last week. He also gave his full cooperation to assist the police investigation.
“He is also prepared to answer in court if there are grounds to charge him,” Syahir said.
He did not identify the article involved, although it is believed to be one of Hadi’s writings published under his ‘Minda Presiden PAS’ (‘PAS President’s Thoughts’) column.
Separately, in Batu Pahat, Hadi questioned whether PAS’ contributions in Johor and Negeri Sembilan should be taken into consideration in any potential cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the Melaka state election.
Also present were PAS Johor commissioner Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed and Ayer Hitam Umno division chief Datuk Samsolbari Jamali.
BN and PN had reached an understanding for the Negeri Sembilan state election on Aug 1, with the two blocs subsequently forming the state government after securing a majority of the 36 state seats.
BN won 18 seats, while PN, comprising PAS and Wawasan, secured eight.
In the Johor state election in July, PAS urged voters not to support Pakatan Harapan (PH), including in seats where BN and PH were involved in straight fights.
PN contested 33 state seats, with Bersatu allocated 16, PAS 11, MIPP five and Pejuang one. None of the PN candidates won their respective seats.
Meanwhile, Hadi questioned why issues involving Tabung Haji were only being investigated now despite having been raised a long time ago.
He said the timing of the investigation, as the country approaches elections, raised questions over the authorities’ motives.
“Why is it only being investigated now? It was only raised near the state election, it was only raised near the Negeri Sembilan state election. After this, there will be a general election, too. It has taken too long,” he said.
Hadi stressed that any action should be comprehensive and should not focus solely on Tabung Haji. - August 22, 2026
