A MALAYSIAN Civil Defence Force (APM) officer died early today after being bitten by a king cobra during a reptile-handling demonstration in Temerloh yesterday.

Civil Defence Sergeant (PA) Muhamad Muazam Shah Kamardin, 39, died at 1.50am while receiving treatment at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HoSHAS), Temerloh.

Pahang APM director Colonel (PA) Che Adam A Rahman said the deceased’s remains would be taken to Kampung Bukit Kelulut Mosque for funeral prayers before being buried at the Kampung Bukit Kelulut Muslim cemetery.

Burial arrangements were expected to take place this morning, Berita Harian reported.

Muhamad Muazam Shah was understood to have been single and is survived by a sister.

The incident occurred at about 10.50am yesterday when Muhamad Muazam Shah was bitten on the middle finger of his right hand while conducting a snake-handling demonstration at Dewan Taman Temerloh Jaya.

At the time, the Temerloh district APM had been invited to participate in the Jelajah Agenda Nasional Malaysia Sihat programme, where it conducted a demonstration on the safe handling of snakes for participants.

Che Adam said the officer left the hall after being bitten to wash his hand but suddenly collapsed outside the building.

He was subsequently rushed to the HoSHAS Emergency Department for further treatment before being placed in the Red Zone under medical supervision.

His condition continued to be monitored by doctors before he was pronounced dead at 1.50am today. - August 23, 2026
