POLICE in Johor Bharu have launched an investigation into an alleged illegal street race on the Linkedua Expressway after a video showing motorcyclists blocking traffic to facilitate a race went viral on social media.

The Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) confirmed that it had received a report over the video, which showed two motorcyclists allegedly racing along the stretch between the Senai Utara Toll Interchange and the Johor Premium Outlets (JPO) Interchange on Aug 22.

The video, shared on Threads, showed a group of individuals stopping traffic on the expressway to allow the race to take place, before setting off fireworks.

Police have identified an individual believed to have been present at the scene and are working with highway operator PLUS Malaysia Berhad to obtain closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area.

The Kulai JSPT is currently conducting investigations to identify the riders and spectators involved.

Police said further updates would be issued as the investigation progresses. - August 23, 2026
