PERIKATAN Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has indicated that the Melaka state election could be held in less than two months, calling on the coalition’s machinery to treat the next 60 days as a decisive period in determining the state’s next government.
Ahmad Samsuri, who is also PAS vice-president, said the period before the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly must be fully utilised to ensure Perikatan Nasional’s election machinery is ready for the polls.
“I reckon there are no more than two months until the election date. This is a very important time for us to continue working, starting now — or, rather, from yesterday.
“We have 60 days. Do not look at these 60 days as a long period. Look at these 60 days as 60 days that will determine the shape of the government that will administer Melaka,” he said when addressing a PAS Melaka charity dinner at a hotel in Ayer Keroh on Sunday night.
The event was also attended by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and Melaka PAS commissioner Ustaz Zulkifli Ismail.
Ahmad Samsuri said the entire PN machinery must work in a more organised and disciplined manner while employing effective strategies to win the confidence of Melaka voters.
He said PN must demonstrate that it is prepared to govern the state by fielding credible candidates with integrity and the ability to resolve the people’s problems.
The Terengganu Menteri Besar also warned party workers against becoming distracted by political rhetoric, saying the coalition should instead focus on providing solutions to the issues affecting the people.
He said voters were not merely interested in hearing political slogans and rallies but wanted to see the solutions being offered to address their concerns.
Ahmad Samsuri also urged the coalition not to regard any constituency as impossible to win.
“Never should we say that there is no point, no matter what we do, in contesting in a particular area. Instead, we should ask ourselves what more we need to do to enable us to win in places considered so difficult, places that appear almost impossible.
“If our machinery moves with discipline, strategy and determination, the political situation in the state of Melaka can change rapidly,” he said.
He said that if 1,000 party workers each succeeded in convincing just one voter every day, the campaign could reach tens of thousands of people over the course of 60 days.
Ahmad Samsuri stressed that PN was seeking the people’s mandate not merely to form the state government, but to serve and shoulder responsibility for the interests of all Melaka residents. - August 24, 2026
