A MOTORING influencer is among eight individuals remanded for four days over a viral video allegedly showing an illegal motorcycle race on the Linkedua Highway in Kulai last Saturday.

The remand order, which began today, was issued by Magistrate R Salini inafter allowing a police application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The remand was sought to facilitate investigations under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers dangerous and reckless driving.

A police truck carrying all eight suspects, aged between 26 and 45, arrived at the Kulai Court complex at about 8.30am.

All the suspects wore face masks, while two of them, including the influencer, wore hoodies to avoid being recorded by the media.

Yesterday, Johor police chief Datuk Ab. Rahaman Arsad said all eight suspects were arrested at 11.54am by a team of officers and personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Kulai District Police Headquarters.

The arrests followed the circulation of a 33-second video showing two motorcyclists allegedly racing illegally on the highway at about 7am.

The incident is believed to have taken place between Kilometre 33, near the Senai Utara toll interchange, and Kilometre 31, near the Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) interchange.

The footage also showed several individuals apparently blocking the highway to allow the race to proceed.

The suspects allegedly set off firecrackers to celebrate the end of the race, while several individuals, including the influencer, were seen standing on the road shoulder after the race had ended. - August 24, 2026
