MALAYSIANS must continue to uphold the Rukun Negara as a guiding framework in community and national life, with respect for the Constitution, the rule of law and social harmony remaining essential to a stable and prosperous society, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir, said.
Tuanku Muhriz said a strong commitment to religious values and respect for tradition should also be reinforced as foundations for developing the character, morality and civilisation of society.
He said the principles of Loyalty to King and Country, Supremacy of the Constitution and the Rule of Law were particularly important in ensuring that decisions and responsibilities were carried out according to established regulations.
“The principles of Loyalty to King and Country, Supremacy of the Constitution and the Rule of Law are very important in ensuring that every action, decision and responsibility is carried out in accordance with established regulations while always respecting the Constitution as the supreme law of the country.
“The principle of Courtesy and Morality, meanwhile, emphasises the importance of every individual preserving proper conduct and practising politeness in their daily behaviour and speech,” he said.
Tuanku Muhriz was speaking at the 2026 Negeri Sembilan Maulidur Rasul celebration at the Seremban City Council field in Seremban today.
He also called on leaders and the people of Negeri Sembilan to strengthen social bonds and foster mutual respect regardless of racial or religious differences.
“Any problems should be managed with wisdom and tolerance, while unity and harmony must always be given priority so that this state continues to be blessed with peace and prosperity,” he said.
Tuanku Muhriz said genuine progress should not be measured solely through economic achievements or physical development.
Instead, he said, a society’s ability to preserve its values, heritage and identity for future generations was equally important.
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim said strengthening the ummah must go beyond being a slogan and serve as a foundation for building a strong, harmonious and resilient society rooted in knowledge, civilisation and Islamic values.
He said the state government had a responsibility to chart a direction that would develop a resilient, knowledgeable and principled society capable of adapting to changing times.
“However, the development of the ummah cannot be left solely to the government, but requires the cooperation of all levels of society and all parties.
“Support for the agenda of developing the ummah must be carried out with sincerity, without manipulating religion or turning it into a tool for division.
“Religious principles must remain the foundation, while progress and openness must be guided by values, knowledge and responsibility,” he said.
