Pakatan Harapan chairman confirms that election director Amirudin Shari has been entrusted with working out cooperation with Barisan Nasional - August 25, 2026

PAKATAN Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that the coalition has tasked its election director, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, with working out the details of cooperation with Barisan Nasional, including the division of seats for the upcoming Malacca state election.

Anwar, who is also Prime Minister, said Amirudin had been entrusted with examining the matter and finalising the details of the proposed collaboration.

“We have given Amir (Amirudin) the trust to work out the details,” he told reporters after attending the National-Level Maulidur Rasul 1448H/2026 celebration in Serdang on Tuesday.

He was responding to questions over reports that his recent meeting with Amirudin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, had included discussions on seat allocation ahead of the Malacca state election.

However, Anwar dismissed suggestions that the meeting itself was centred on political negotiations, saying it had been held to discuss matters related to the organisation of the 2026 Malaysia Games, or Sukma.

“I met the Selangor Menteri Besar regarding Sukma. During sports, there is no time for politics,” he said.

Asked about the scope for cooperation among political parties in the Malacca election, Anwar stressed that cooperation remained essential not only in politics but also in the broader administration of government.

“There is always room for cooperation. In this life, we have to cooperate. It is all about cooperation,” he said briefly.

The development comes after PH communications director and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that Amirudin had met Anwar on Sunday.

Anwar had previously said PH’s election committee would discuss the possibility of cooperation with BN for the Malacca state election.

The PH election committee is jointly led by Amirudin and PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The move places Amirudin at the centre of PH’s preparations for the Malacca election as the coalition works with BN to determine the terms of cooperation and the distribution of seats. - August 25, 2026
