A BUSINESSMAN told the High Court today that he had no malicious motives against Bersatu President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, when he contributed RM4.8 million to the party five years ago.
The Director of KCJ Engineering Sdn. Bhd., Datuk Seri Azman Yusoff, 54, said that a personal contribution of RM4 million and company money of RM800,000 was given to repay Muhyiddin for helping him win the Janawibawa project.
According to him, on July 30, 2021, his company received a Letter of Acceptance (SST) from the Public Works Department (JKR) for the project to build a new road connecting Felda Bukit Jalur to Gemas, Negeri Sembilan, with a finalised price of RM62 million with an implementation period of 34 months.
The 27th prosecution witness said that he was grateful to Muhyiddin, who was then the prime minister, for helping Bumiputera contractors obtain projects even though the country was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“During Covid-19, no project could be carried out; I am not only grateful, but also indebted to Tan Sri Muhyiddin,” he said when giving evidence at the trial of the Bersatu President who is facing seven charges related to the Janawibawa Program.
Azman was also asked by Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin whether he knew that his act of making a contribution was an offence.
The witness, who is also the President of Bumiputera Contractors Malaysia (PKBM), said that he knew that the act was wrong but did it for the survival of his business.
“I know (the act was wrong); I am a businessman. At that time, the construction industry was paralysed; no projects were going ahead. Alhamdulillah, with the help of Tan Sri, the industry has recovered.
“That is why I agreed and made a contribution to Bersatu; he also spontaneously informed me about it when we met in a golf match,” he said.
According to Azman, he has never made any contributions to any other political party.
