SELANGOR police have dismantled five premises believed to have been operating scam call centres in separate operations between August 18 and 25, arresting 40 people suspected of targeting victims across several Asian countries.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the operations, carried out by the Selangor Commercial Crime Investigation Department, led to the arrest of three Malaysian men, 32 foreign men and five foreign women.
The suspects are believed to have worked as customer service operators for scam syndicates targeting victims in Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Police seized computers, laptops, mobile phones, modems, routers, passports and cash worth a combined RM165,000.
The syndicates are believed to have been involved in police impersonation scams, video subscription fraud and love scams.
The cases are being investigated under Sections 420 and 120B of the Penal Code.
Shazeli urged members of the public to alert police to suspicious activities at residential or business premises to enable immediate action against criminal operations.
In a separate development, police arrested 11 individuals believed to be linked to two suspected secret society groups following a fight in Taman Alam Megah on August 25 that left a man dead.
Shazeli said five of the suspects had been remanded for seven days, while the remaining six were expected to be brought before a court today for remand applications.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the violence may have been linked to a dispute over territory between the two groups in Shah Alam.
“However, investigations are still ongoing to determine the actual motive. All the suspects are in their 20s and 30s. We are recording statements from several witnesses to assist the investigation.
“Based on information received, we believe these are newly established groups.
“We are still investigating their backgrounds, including identifying the leaders of the groups,” he said at a press conference in Shah Alam today.
Police are continuing efforts to trace other individuals believed to be involved in the suspected secret society groups and the deadly incident.
Several other people were injured in the fight, with three still receiving treatment in hospital.
Police had earlier arrested a man after a group fight in Jalan Mandolin 33/5, Taman Alam Megah, resulted in one death.
Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sarudin Samah said police were alerted to the incident after a member of the public reported a fight involving a group of men.
The incident later went viral after a one-minute dashboard camera recording from a vehicle near the scene circulated on social media.
The footage showed a group of individuals rushing out of several vehicles before attacking a man who was lying on the road.
The investigation remains ongoing, and all suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. - August 27, 2026
