SULTAN Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has voiced concern that while many people are struggling with hardship, some continue to enjoy wealth obtained through breaches of trust while justice is undermined.
He said such injustice arose when power was no longer guided by integrity and responsibility, but was instead driven by greed and personal interests.
“Do not ever think that those who commit injustice will escape Allah’s judgement.
“In reality, Allah delays the punishment of the unjust so that they may feel the severity and fear of Allah’s wrath,” he said.
The Sultan said this after attending a Yasin recitation, prayers and tahlil in conjunction with Selangor’s 69th National Day celebrations at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque here today.
Also present were Selangor Regent Tengku Amir Shah and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Sultan Sharafuddin also heard the Friday sermon, titled “Merdeka daripada belenggu Kerakusan” (Freedom from the shackles of greed), which called on Muslims to reflect on the meaning of independence by freeing themselves from greed, uncontrolled desires and betrayal.
He said true independence began with individuals being able to control themselves and refrain from actions that could harm their lives and society.
Sultan Sharafuddin also warned that signs of declining integrity were becoming increasingly apparent, including when important responsibilities were entrusted to those who were not qualified or when trust was abused for personal gain.
He urged Muslims to reject any form of breach of trust, saying it could erode public confidence and undermine the wellbeing of society.
Those entrusted with managing public assets and funds, he said, carried a serious responsibility before Allah.
“Managing public funds with integrity is a sign of our love for the people and the country.
“Do not allow wealth that should benefit the people to be misappropriated for personal gain,” he said.
The Sultan said everyone had a duty to carry out whatever responsibility entrusted to them honestly, regardless of how small it might seem.
He said integrity and trust were among the foundations of a stable society and the true meaning of independence.
“The guilty must be punished, those who are trustworthy must be supported, and a good system must continue to be improved from time to time,” he said. – August 28, 2026
