A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy died after falling about five metres through a gap on the historic Victoria Bridge in Enggor, Kuala Kangsar, while visiting the popular tourist attraction with his father.
The incident occurred at about 6pm yesterday, when the boy was walking across the bridge hand-in-hand with his 42-year-old father.
Sungai Siput district police chief Superintendent Charan Ai Wan said the child fell through a gap in the bridge and landed on the paved road below.
“Immediately after falling onto the paved road beneath the bridge, the victim was still alive and was rushed to the hospital’s emergency department but was pronounced dead at 7.40pm,” he said today.
The boy, who was from Kluang, Johor, had travelled to Victoria Bridge with his family during the National Day public holiday.
Following the incident, the iconic bridge was closed to tourists today on safety grounds, with Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council (MPKK) and police putting up barriers and warning tape around the affected area.
A nearby stall operator, who identified herself only as Nyah, said her husband and daughter-in-law were tending the stall when they heard a loud noise.
“They initially thought it was the sound of a bag falling before they were shocked to realise that it was actually a child who had fallen from a height,” she said.
Nyah said the bridge had attracted a large number of visitors during yesterday’s National Day holiday, including families with young children who came to take photographs at the popular heritage site.
The fatal incident has highlighted safety concerns at the attraction, particularly during public holidays when visitor numbers increase. - September 1, 2026
