DATIN Seri Rosmah Mansor has lost her bid for an unconditional stay of a RM67.5 million High Court judgment over 43 missing jewellery pieces, with the Court of Appeal allowing Lebanese company Global Royalty Trading SAL to take steps to enforce the award.
A three-member panel chaired by Datuk Seri Mohd Firuz Jaffril, with Datuk Amarjeet Singh Serjit and Datuk Aliza Sulaiman, also ordered Rosmah to pay RM30,000 in costs to Global Royalty.
Mohd Firuz said on Wednesday that Rosmah had failed to provide sufficient grounds for the court to grant an unconditional stay pending her appeal.
The court also allowed Global Royalty to take the necessary steps to enforce the High Court judgment.
“Datuk David, (referring to Datuk David Gurupatham, who led the legal team representing the founder of Global Royalty Trading SAL) you can do whatever you want (to enforce the High Court judgment),” he said.
The ruling leaves in place the conditional stay granted by Judicial Commissioner Marianne Antoinette Ghani on Aug 12, under which Rosmah was ordered to place the full judgment sum of about RM67.5 million into a joint stakeholder account held by the solicitors for both parties within one month.
The arrangement was intended to safeguard Global Royalty’s entitlement if Rosmah’s appeal fails, while keeping the funds in Malaysia for return to her if she succeeds.
On June 10, High Court judge Datuk Quay Chew Soon ordered Rosmah to pay RM67,461,027.37 to Global Royalty within one month after allowing the company’s suit over the missing jewellery.
Global Royalty filed the suit in 2023, seeking the return of 44 jewellery pieces or their value.
The company claimed the items, including diamond necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets and tiaras, had not been returned. It claimed only one of the 44 pieces was in police custody, while the remaining 43 had never been recorded as being in the possession of the authorities.
Global Royalty also alleged that Rosmah had sought to attribute the loss of the jewellery to the Malaysian Government. - September 23, 2026
