PUBLIC order in Negeri Sembilan remains stable despite the constitutional dispute over a proclamation purporting to remove Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as Yang di-Pertuan Besar, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said today.
Khalid said police were closely monitoring the situation and would continue to safeguard public order, while investigations into reports lodged over the controversy were ongoing.
“It appears that the community there understands the situation for now.”
He said police were also investigating the various reports lodged over the issue, with several individuals already called to have their statements recorded.
“We are also probing the various reports lodged over the issue. We will investigate accordingly and maintain public order,” he said at the launch of Penang’s “Whitening the Black Spot” initiative at the Penang International Convention Centre Arena (PICCA) in George Town today.
Khalid said those called up included individuals who could assist as witnesses, with more statements expected to be recorded as the investigation progressed.
“Police are investigating. Once we have completed the investigation papers, we will submit them to the Attorney-General for further action,” he said.
He said investigators were still examining the reports to determine the applicable legal provisions.
“We have not looked at it comprehensively yet. It may involve the Sedition Act or other offences, and it requires scrutiny by the Attorney-General's Chambers.”
Khalid also dismissed reports that former state executive councillors had been summoned for questioning today.
“Today is Sunday, so not yet. We have not called them yet,” he said.
He said police had previously called two individuals who could assist as witnesses and would continue recording statements from other parties linked to the reports.
Reports centre on an April 19 proclamation purporting to remove Tuanku Muhriz as Yang di-Pertuan Besar and recognise Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar as his successor.
Meanwhile, Penang police chief Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng said the “Whitening the Black Spot” initiative was aimed at raising community awareness and reducing crime in identified high-risk localities.
Under its first phase, each district police headquarters has been directed to identify crime levels in localities based on reported incidents, risk assessments and overall security conditions.
Fourteen programmes involving 38 initiatives have been planned to reduce crime in areas identified as black spots.
He also said the Penang police contingent planned to hold a logo competition themed “Unite for Safety” for vocational and secondary school students. - September 27, 2026
