TRANSPORT Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has demonstrated excellent performance throughout his tenure, and it is unjust to pressure him to resign over the corrupt actions of other leaders.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim criticised those calling for Loke’s resignation, emphasising that the DAP Secretary-General’s leadership performance has been exemplary.
He stated that the government's primary focus at present is curbing corruption, misappropriation, and the abuse of power.
"He (Anthony Loke) only submitted the letter yesterday. I was pressed for time yesterday as I had to rush to the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah's funeral.
"However, what is the real issue? Our country's main problems are corruption, plunder, and the abuse of power. Why call for a resignation over an unrelated matter?
"It is the ones who did not commit robbery who are being pressured to resign," he said.
It was earlier reported that Loke’s resignation letter as Transport Minister was submitted to the Prime Minister yesterday.
Loke stated that the Prime Minister had asked him to retain the position for a certain period.
However, when asked about the duration for which he would hold the post, he said the resignation would take effect automatically when former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak starts his house arrest.
Meanwhile, Anwar said he would hold further discussions with Loke.
"What is the problem with his work? His work is good. His performance as Transport Minister has been excellent. That is why I will discuss this matter with him," he added. – September 29, 2026
