STRENGTHENING collaboration through Starlink satellite internet services to expand high-quality connectivity across remote regions formed the central focus of discussions between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and a visiting SpaceX delegation yesterday.
Anwar stated that the Malaysian government appreciates the role played by SpaceX in supporting national connectivity goals under the JENDELA plan, particularly for rural populations in Sabah, Sarawak, and Orang Asli settlements across Peninsular Malaysia.
“I also welcome the operation of Starlink's Point of Presence (PoP) infrastructure in Cyberjaya to smooth local data traffic and enhance service quality for users,” he shared in a statement published on social media following the courtesy call at Putrajaya.
During the meeting, SpaceX donated 50 Starlink kits to bolster Malaysia's national disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities.
Emphasising the human-centric focus of digital adoption, Anwar noted that technological advancement must yield tangible benefits for everyday citizens.
“Alongside the expansion of internet coverage, cybersecurity, data protection, and safe internet usage must remain top priorities,” Anwar said.
“We want to ensure that rural communities also enjoy quality and secure internet access so that they are not left behind in the nation's progress,” he added. - October 1, 2026
