POLICE in Teluk Intan have busted a syndicate that allegedly used Malaysians’ personal details to open about 60 Alipay accounts to receive and transfer proceeds from online gambling scams targeting Chinese nationals.

Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said five local men and eight Myanmar nationals were arrested in connection with the syndicate.

He said the syndicate allegedly offered RM500 to individuals willing to open Alipay accounts using their Malaysian identity details.

“The syndicate is believed to have successfully opened 60 Alipay accounts using the personal details of local residents.

“Based on preliminary investigations, the syndicate acted as a payment gateway agent, opening Alipay accounts to receive and transfer money from online gambling scams targeting Chinese nationals,” he told reporters at the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters in Teluk Intan today.

Mohd Alwi said the syndicate allegedly earned a two per cent commission on the value of funds transferred into the Alipay accounts, with estimated daily earnings of about RM2,000.

“Mobile phones and SIM cards seized were used for facial verification during the registration of the Alipay accounts.

“The syndicate has been operating since mid-July,” he said.

Mohd Alwi said the case was being investigated under Section 424A and Section 120(b) of the Penal Code. - October 2, 2026
