THE Selangor Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) under the Prime Minister’s Department will oversee applications and contributions for the Petaling Jaya parliamentary constituency following the resignation of its Member of Parliament, Lee Chean Chung.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that the ICU's intervention will complement ongoing services provided by the local PKR branch chief, state assemblymen, and municipal councillors to ensure uninterrupted constituent support.

Fahmi made the remarks when questioned regarding Lee's unconditional resignation during the Program MADANI Kita (PMK) Kota Anggerik @ Shah Alam event at Dewan Melati in Section 7 today.

"The PKR party branch will coordinate matters... good luck to him (Lee Chean Chung)," Fahmi said.

Lee announced his decision to step down as Petaling Jaya MP effective Friday, 2 October, during a press conference, adding that he will officially tender his resignation as a PKR member on Monday, 5 October.

The resignation follows a decision by the party on 30 September to suspend Lee's PKR membership for three years, which was formally communicated to him via an official letter.

"As such, I have made the decision to resign (as the Petaling Jaya MP) without any conditions," Lee said during his press conference.

Lee also met with Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul on Thursday, 1 October, to officially inform him of his decision.

He cited several key policy issues he had actively championed, including the Urban Renewal Act, the foreign worker management system, and the Sales and Service Tax (SST), as potential factors behind his party suspension.

Separately at the event, Fahmi urged the public to utilise government digital applications, highlighting the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's PriceCatcher app for price comparisons.

He also highlighted the MyGovMalaysia portal, which consolidates multi-ministry services including driving licences, passports, and traffic summonses into a single platform. - October 3, 2026
