THE sustainability of Tabung Haji (TH), Malaysia’s dependence on food imports and the implementation of rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) are among key issues expected to come under scrutiny as the Dewan Rakyat resumes sitting today.
The sitting marks the start of the third meeting of the fifth session of the 15th Parliament, with MPs also scheduled to raise matters involving national security, higher education reform, ageing policy and artificial intelligence.
During the Oral Question-and-Answer session, Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (PN-Besut) is scheduled to ask the Prime Minister about long-term measures to ensure the sustainability of TH funds, including how the pilgrimage fund can continue helping Malaysians meet rising haj costs while managing investment risks.
National security and consular assistance will also be raised, with Datuk Seri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali (BN-Pekan) scheduled to ask the Foreign Minister about strengthening registration systems for Malaysians travelling abroad, including whether mandatory registration should be introduced for those travelling to high-risk destinations.
On food security, Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) is scheduled to seek an update from the Agriculture and Food Security Minister on efforts to reduce food imports, which exceeded RM90 billion in 2025, as well as measures to address the dumping of foreign products.
MA63 implementation will also feature prominently, with Datuk Willie Mongin (GPS-Puncak Borneo) scheduled to seek an update from the Federal Government on Sarawak’s regulatory powers over oil and gas assets.
On higher education, Oscar Ling Chai Yew (PH-Sibu) will ask about the timeline for repealing the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU) and the proposed transitional framework.
Other issues on the agenda include the National Ageing Action Plan and global calls to slow artificial intelligence development, as well as the status of the proposed Malaysian AI Act.
Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa (PH-Sekijang) is scheduled to raise the ageing policy issue with the Economy Minister, while Datuk Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (PN-Kubang Pasu) will question the Digital Minister on AI development and regulation.
Two Bills — the Sports Development (Amendment) Bill 2026 and the Food (Amendment) Bill 2026 — are also scheduled for first reading.
The Dewan Rakyat will additionally consider three reports from Parliamentary Select Committees and the Public Accounts Committee, including matters involving refugee management protocols and court bail payments under the e-Jamin system.
The 37-day sitting is scheduled to run until Dec 8. - October 5, 2026
