A 19-YEAR-OLD female student was found dead, believed to have been strangled following an intense argument with her boyfriend in a rented room at Jalan Air Putih 2, Kuantan, early this morning.

Police arrested her 19-year-old boyfriend at the scene after he personally contacted the emergency services line MERS 999 at 4.32am to report the altercation.

Kuantan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah confirmed that dispatch units were deployed immediately to the location following the call.

"Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered a 19-year-old female student lying unconscious on a bed on the ground floor of the premises," Ashari said in a statement today.

"A physical inspection conducted by forensic specialists from Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) revealed marks indicating pressure on the victim's neck before medical officers confirmed her death."

Initial police investigations indicate the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute between the couple.

Forensic officers from the Pahang Contingent Police Headquarters D10 Crime Investigation Department and the K9 Unit conducted an extensive site examination to gather physical evidence.

The suspect was brought before the Kuantan Magistrate's Court today, where police successfully obtained a seven-day remand order valid until October 12. The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled at HTAA’s Forensic Department to establish the exact cause of death, while investigators continue recording statements from witnesses.

Ashari advised members of the public to refrain from making speculations or sharing unverified information that could disrupt ongoing investigations, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist the police. - October 6, 2026
