THE Home Ministry and the Transport Ministry will implement four immediate security measures over the next six months to reinforce national airport security, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail told the Dewan Rakyat today.
Replying to a question from Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan regarding the status of 17 improvement recommendations for international entry points, Saifuddin outlined the short-term first phase that commenced in August.
Saifuddin explained that the measure will take the form of Risk-Based Targeted Screening which would conducting comprehensive physical checks and 100 per cent baggage screening system for outbound flights heading to destinations classified as high-risk for smuggling, including Indonesia.
He added: “There would be tighter access card controls that will shorten the validity period of airport access cards issued by the Chief Government Security Office from five years to two years subject to renewal, alongside stricter daily pass controls by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia.
The measures to be implemented includes enhanced personnel vetting, where pre-employment drug screening will e conducted along with police background checks, and regular random testing for pilots, cabin crew, and ground handling staff in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, the Royal Malaysia Police, and the National Anti-Drugs Agency.
There will also be increased security presence where the General Operations Force Battalion 19 will be deployed to maintain a visible, continuous security presence across all terminal areas.
In a separate matter raised by Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden in the Dewan Rakyat today, Saifuddin addressed the viral CCTV footage involving Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency Director-General Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.
Saifuddin confirmed that police are actively investigating the unauthorised leak and dissemination of the airport CCTV footage alongside witness statements and physical evidence.
He added that the Royal Malaysia Police will submit an initial investigation report on the alleged altercation involving Mohd Shuhaily and a civil servant at KLIA Terminal 1 to the Attorney General's Chambers today for further legal review. - October 6, 2026
