THE Election Commission (EC) has set 14 Nov as polling day for the 16th Meaka state election.
EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, at a press conference following the commission’s special meeting today, said the nomination date has been set for 31 Oct, while early voting will be held on 10 Nov.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced the dissolution on September 23, paving the way for the state's 16th election.
The dissolution was made pursuant to Clause (2) of Article 19 of the Melaka State Constitution.
It will be the third state election this year, following Johor and Negeri Sembilan. Barisan Nasional (BN) retained Johor, while the BN-PN pact reclaimed Negeri Sembilan from Pakatan Harapan (PH).
In the 2021 Melaka election, Barisan Nasional secured victory by winning 21 of the 28 seats, while Pakatan Harapan won five and Perikatan Nasional won two.
The upcoming state election is expected to see crowded contests, with newcomer Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) joining the race and contesting 15 seats. – October 7, 2026
