THE public has been cautioned against falling for unverified claims circulating on social media ahead of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s tabling of Budget 2027 on Friday.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said misleading graphics, manipulated images and fabricated announcements could surface ahead of the Budget, with some potentially using photographs or logos of established media organisations to make the content appear genuine.
“I expect there may be parties trying to get ahead of the prime minister’s speech. There is no need to use social media to do this.
“Some may misuse photographs or logos of media organisations to produce graphics that have nothing to do with what the prime minister will announce,” he told reporters after opening the Communications Ministry Complex today.
Anwar, who is also finance minister, is scheduled to table Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat on Friday.
Fahmi said members of the public should rely on the live broadcast of the Budget and verify claims circulating online against reports from established news organisations, including Bernama and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).
“Check carefully whether the information is genuine. Do not immediately believe or share something simply because it looks convincing or carries the logo of a media organisation,” he said.
He also urged the public to report suspicious or suspected fake content to the police or Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) so that appropriate action could be taken. – October 7, 2026
