TENAGA Nasional Bhd (TNB) will invest RM15 billion to strengthen the national electricity grid as Malaysia steps up its energy transition to safeguard long-term power supply security amid global geopolitical uncertainty.
Under Budget 2027, UEM Lestra will invest RM1 billion, including in an energy storage project at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and a 1-gigawatt hybrid energy project in Johor.
The government is also mobilising green financing, with the RM1 billion KWAP Climate Fund to support projects involving renewable energy and decarbonisation.
To help households manage higher electricity consumption during hot weather, the NUR MADANI programme will offer rebates of up to RM200 to buyers of energy-efficient air conditioners and refrigerators.
The government will also improve and extend tax incentives for companies investing in green and sustainable technologies until Dec 31, 2030.
Companies undertaking green and sustainable technology projects, as well as electric vehicle charging station projects, will be eligible for Investment Tax Allowances of up to 100 per cent.
The same allowance of up to 100 per cent will be available to companies purchasing green technology assets for their own use.
The measures are aimed at accelerating private-sector investment in cleaner technologies while strengthening Malaysia's energy resilience and supporting its longer-term decarbonisation goals. - October 9, 2026
