A 57-YEAR-OLD teacher will be charged in the Kota Bharu Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday over a crash outside a school surau in April that killed a Form One girl and seriously injured another student

THE teacher is expected to face two charges under Sections 304A and 336 of the Penal Code over the incident at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tanjong Mas on April 12.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirmed the impending prosecution when contacted.

“The teacher will be charged under two provisions of the Penal Code, Section 304A for causing death and Section 336 for causing injury,” he said.

The incident occurred at about 1.50pm when the car driven by the teacher struck two Form One girls outside the school surau.

Initial investigations reportedly indicated that the driver had mistakenly pressed the accelerator, causing the car to veer out of control and hit the students.

One girl died at the scene from severe head injuries, while the other sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. - October 12, 2026
