THE government will revitalise two of Kuala Lumpur’s historic railway landmarks for tourism, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said today, dismissing allegations that the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) headquarters would be sold or privatised.

The restoration and upgrading initiative will be undertaken through a collaboration involving Khazanah Nasional and the Railway Assets Corporation (RAC), as part of efforts to preserve Malaysia’s railway heritage while giving the buildings a renewed public and tourism role.

“With this announcement, I hope we can put an end to all the accusations and slander claiming that the Transport Ministry wants to sell the KTMB building,” he told a press conference at the Transport Ministry n Monday.

Loke said certain parties had repeatedly accused him of seeking to sell KTMB assets, including its historic headquarters, to private companies.

“There are people who constantly spread slander, claiming Anthony Loke wants to sell KTMB, including its building, to other parties and Chinese companies.

“This is completely untrue. There has never been any plan to privatise or sell the KTMB building,” he said.

He described the headquarters as a government-owned heritage building with significant historical and nostalgic value, stressing that the project was intended to preserve its legacy while giving it a new lease of life.

Loke said the restoration would take a similar approach to Khazanah’s work on the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, combining conservation with efforts to make the historic structures more attractive to the public and tourists.

“We want to beautify and revitalise these buildings. They are not only being preserved but will also be upgraded into iconic landmarks that can attract tourists,” he said.

Separately, Loke said railway track upgrades and improvements to Seremban Railway Station had been approved, with work already under way. - October 12, 2026
