THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is seeking to identify those behind an insulting edited image of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, which has been removed from Threads following intervention with platform operator Meta.

In a statement today, MCMC said it had contacted Meta over the circulation of the image, while its investigation focused on identifying those responsible for creating and disseminating the content.

“Further action may be taken if any laws have been breached, including under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588],” it said.

The commission said it would continue working with platform providers to ensure appropriate action was taken in line with community guidelines and applicable laws.

It also urged the public not to upload or share the image again, warning that recirculation could widen its reach.

Complaints can be submitted through Threads’ reporting function, the MCMC Complaints Portal at [https://aduan.mcmc.gov.my](https://aduan.mcmc.gov.my) or official Royal Malaysia Police channels. - October 12, 2026
