AIR quality deteriorated across Malaysia this morning, with 26 locations recording unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) readings as haze continues to affect several parts of the country.
Data from the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed Johan Setia in Selangor recorded the highest reading at 173 as of 7am.
Nilai followed at 170, Bukit Rambai at 169, Seremban at 166, Alor Gajah and Bandaraya Melaka at 165 each, Pasir Gudang at 165, Tangkak at 164, Batu Muda at 161 and Petaling Jaya at 160.
Another 39 locations recorded moderate air quality, including Tawau, Sri Aman, Tasek Ipoh, Balok Baru in Kuantan and Pegoh in Ipoh.
Three monitoring stations — Tanah Merah, Labuan and Limbang — recorded good air quality.
Under the Department of Environment’s classification, API readings of zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and readings above 300 hazardous.
The widespread unhealthy readings raise concerns over exposure to polluted air, particularly for children, older people and those with respiratory or heart conditions.
Residents in affected areas should reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor activities and monitor official air-quality updates. - October 19, 2026
