BARISAN Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan was reportedly involved in a heated exchange with an Election Commission (EC) official after being denied entry to the Lendu nomination centre at Kompleks Rakan Muda in Alor Gajah today.
Mohamad, popularly known as Tok Mat, had accompanied BN candidate Datuk Abu Hakim Abdul Wahid for the nomination process for the Melaka state election.
A witness, who declined to be named told Utusan Malaysia that Mohamad questioned why he was barred from entering despite holding a pass issued by the EC.
"Tok Mat questioned why he was not allowed in despite having an EC pass.
"He also asked what the purpose of the pass was if he was still not allowed to enter the nomination centre," the witness said.
The witness said the EC official explained that Mohamad's presence would exceed the number of individuals permitted to accompany a candidate into the nomination centre.
Under the nomination procedures, only the candidate, proposer and seconder were allowed inside, the official reportedly told him.
A brief verbal exchange followed before Mohamad, who is also Umno deputy president, decided to leave the venue.
The incident drew the attention of party workers and members of the public gathered outside the complex, but the situation returned to normal after his departure.
The nomination process continued, with Abu Hakim set to face a straight fight against Perikatan Nasional candidate Nazri Ramli of Bersatu for the Lendu seat. - October 31, 2026
