Sharp rise in Sabah flood victims to 746 last night

KOTA KINABALU – The number of flood victims in three districts in Sabah, namely Kudat, Kota Marudu and Pitas have recorded a sharp increase to 746 people from 225 families as at 8pm last night.

According to a statement from the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee, all victims are housed at eight temporary relief centres (PPS) opened in the three districts.

One more PPS has been opened in Kudat at SK Sikuati, which houses 40 families, in addition to one in the district at SK Tun Dato Hj Mustapha, which has been sheltering 71 victims from 10 families since yesterday morning.

There are four PPS opened in Kota Marudu compared to only three yesterday evening at Kg Asin-Asin hall, which housed 317 flood victims from 77 families, SK Taritipan (324 people from 80 families), SK Advent Damai (24 people from 12 families) and SMK Tandek.

In Pitas, two relief centres have been opened at SK Pekan II, involving 10 victims from three families, and Kg Kusilad hall, sheltering three families.

A total of 69 villages comprising 17 in Kudat, 11 in Kota Marudu and 41 in Pitas have been affected by floods following continuous rain since Sunday, in addition to the occurrence of several landslides. – Bernama, January 12, 2021
