KOTA KINABALU – Flood victims in Sabah number 951 this morning, a sharp reduction from yesterday’s 1,815, as the authorities close three evacuation centres in Kudat.

The state Civil Defence Force announced that one of the centres was shut last night.

The shelters, at SK Tun Dato Hj Mustapha, SK Sikuati and the Lama Karakit rest house, were housing a total of 976 flood victims.

Currently, eight centres are active in Kota Marudu, Pitas and Beaufort, following the floods that started on Monday.

These shelters are housing 951 evacuees.

The intermittent rain on Monday over Sabah’s west coast caused flooding in Kudat, Kota Marudu, Beaufort and Pitas.

Thousands of people from 290 households in 84 villages were affected.

More victims are expected to return home today as floodwaters begin to recede. – The Vibes, January 13, 2021
