KOTA KINABALU – There is no need for the opposition to form a shadow cabinet as it needs to help the people tide over the rough times.

Warisan Deputy Youth Chief Ismail Ayub said politicking should not be the priority right now and all efforts should be on helping the people and reviving the economy during the pandemic.

“The opposition should play its checks and balances role as the country battles the Covid-19 pandemic and a weak federal government.

“The Perikatan Nasional government has many weaknesses. For instance, Malaysia is still waiting for the arrival of the vaccine and it is still deciding which target groups should be vaccinated first,” said Ismail, who was responding to comments by Upko leader Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau.

“We noticed that the federal government is spending millions of ringgit to buy vaccines but many people are running into financial difficulties losing their jobs and businesses are closing down,” said Ismail.

He said the economic sector is suffering and the federal government is not doing enough to rescue the worsening economy.

Ismail said the country now needs fresh, young, and capable leaders to rebuild the nation.

According to Ismail, the opposition does not need to form a shadow cabinet.

Instead, the opposition can start to bring forth a line of new leaders who can form a clean and visionary government, he said.

Ismail said Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal had said in an interview recently Malaysia cannot be controlled by the same old faces anymore.

He said this is the time for Malaysians to come out from their old ways of thinking and it should be spearheaded by PKR and Pakatan Harapan (PH) leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Warisan is neither part of the PH nor the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.

The party’s eight members of parliament recently came out in the open calling for new leadership in the PH coalition, indirectly calling for the removal of Anwar as opposition leader. – The Vibes, January 14, 2020
