KOTA KINABALU – Clocking in today, Sabah Works Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said he has yet to be briefed on the Papar dam issue.

“I am waiting for the state Water Department to brief me (on the dam),” he told reporters during his first day at the Public Works building in Sembulan today.

Previously, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) had called out the then Warisan government for continuing two controversial projects mooted by Barisan Nasional (BN) previously.

PBS said the turnabout decision on Papar dam, previously known as Kaiduan dam, and the Tanjung Aru Eco Development (TAED) is an acknowledgement that the previous government had the foresight to hasten Sabah’s economic development

PBS said Warisan earlier objected to these developments, using them as campaign fodder, but walked back its objections after being in government.

The two projects received widespread objections from NGOs and opposition members.

Sabah Progressive Party had taken the Warisan government to task for not scrapping the power after being in power in 2018.

It said Wong and Warisan’s deputy chief minister Datuk Christina Liew had objected to the TAED project during their opposition days. – The Vibes, September 30, 2020
