MIRI – The rescuers have found two of the three youths trapped inside a former goldmine in Gunung Tabai in the Bau district, southern Sarawak. One remains missing.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman said the duo were rescued about 5pm today.

“The rescue efforts are ongoing. It has been difficult as the tunnel is steep and deep.”

This morning, villagers at the foot of the mountain said they saw three youths scaling the mountain about 9am today.

“The villagers alerted the Bau Fire and Rescue Department when they found out that one of the youths could be buried alive and the other two stuck inside the mining tunnel.

“The mine is a prohibited zone.”

At least 10 search-and-rescue personnel are still at the mine. – The Vibes, March 24, 2021
