KUALA LUMPUR – Several entertainment activities are prohibited under the latest standard operating procedures (SOPs) released by the National Security Council for the movement control order (MCO) 3.0.

Among them are spa and reflexology, night clubs, pubs, theme parks, indoor playgrounds, family karaoke centres and cinemas. As for tourism activities, travelling in and out of MCO and enhanced MCO areas are not allowed.

Meanwhile, assemblymen and parliamentarians are still allowed to travel across district and state lines for government business and area visits.

Only three individuals are allowed in each private or e-hailing vehicle and taxi, including one driver.

According to the SOPs, individuals are allowed out to get food, medicine, medical treatment, dietary supplements and daily essential items within their districts or the nearest district if the items are unavailable elsewhere.

The number of people allowed in commercial vehicles and supply chain activities depends on the licence.

People in public transport must practise physical distancing and adhere to existing SOPs.

The government is also allowing interstate travel for couples in long-distance relationships, provided they have police permits.

After banning Indian nationals from entering Malaysia, the government has extended the ban to cover travellers from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the ban covers all categories of long-term social visit pass holders, business travellers and social visitors.

Laundromats, optical shops, car wash centres, barbershops and hair salons (only to cut hair) can open between 6am and 10pm. Employees at self-service laundromats need to comply with SOPs as well.

Driving and aviation training institutes are allowed to operate based on SOPs by the Transport Ministry.

Day-care and childcare centres as well as nurseries and kindergartens are allowed to operate with permission from the relevant government agencies. Day-care centres for the disabled, senior citizens and women can remain open.

Indoor busking on premises, cafes and food courts are allowed.

Religious activities such as Friday prayers, congregational prayers, akad nikah and burials are allowed according to state religious departments. Wedding registration for non-Muslims at the National Registration Department, houses of worship and religious associations are allowed.

The government has also prohibited official and unofficial public and private events, including feasts, engagements, weddings, receptions, aqiqah, tahlil, doa selamat, anniversaries, reunions, retreats and other social gatherings, in MCO areas.

Seminars, workshops, courses, conferences, talks, exhibitions and activities linked to meeting, incentives, conventions and exhibitions are prohibited. – The Vibes, May 6, 2021
