KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has admitted to violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures on May 8 by failing to have his temperature taken.
In a statement today, the Langkawi MP said he was in his constituency for several events to distribute Ramadan aid, including at the Tsunami Batu Arang surau in Kuala Teriang, Kuah.
“I was informed that I violated the SOPs by not having my temperature taken prior to entering the surau. This is an offence, and it should not have happened.
“I apologise for not adhering to the SOPs. I will accept any action taken against me according to the law. I apologise for the violation.”
According to his Facebook post on May 8, Dr Mahathir visited two surau – Tsunami Batu Arang and Kg Lubuk Setul – to distribute aid and inform residents of the importance of registering for Covid-19 vaccination.
“Lately, the conversation on vaccine side effects is hotting up. Many are worried. But most of the information is coming from bad sources.
“I have offered myself to be vaccinated, and thank God, there were no side effects. We need to vaccinate ourselves. It might not be 100% effective against the virus, but this a preventive measure against Covid-19.
“With vaccination, the symptoms experienced are not critical as the vaccine increases our antibodies to fight the virus. So, to those who have registered for the vaccine, don’t pull out at the last minute. Vaccinate to protect yourselves and the people around you.” – The Vibes, May 12, 2021
