KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah Star member embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal involving an Unduk Ngadau beauty pageant contestant has been remanded for four days.

The order was made by magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles after police requested a probe into the charges against Phillip Among.

Among’s lawyer, Marcel Jude, confirmed the remand order.

Among, who has since been suspended as Sabah Star Putatan parliamentary constituency coordinator but remains party member, was picked up by police at 1.11pm yesterday.

At the time, he was at his office holding a press conference concerning the alleged police reports filed against him.

Among was accused of sexually harassing one of the Unduk Ngadau state finalists and violating the movement control order’s (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the Kaamatan Harvest Festival singing contest Sugandoi.

The events were held in conjunction with the Kaamatan Harvest Festival, which ended on Monday.

Among was a member of the organising committee at the time of the incidents.

He has denied the accusations of sexual misconduct, which caused a social media storm, and has since taken legal action against two of his accusers.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali said Among is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to outrage the modesty of a person. – The Vibes, June 4, 2021
