KOTA KINABALU – An online petition calling for the Transport Ministry to expedite Covid-19 vaccination for aviation personnel has garnered close to 2,000 signatures.

The change.org petition was started by ninermike9M, a group comprising aircraft maintenance professionals.

In the petition description, it said they are disappointed over not being included among the earliest groups to be vaccinated.

“Everyone knows and understands that aircraft operations during the pandemic are the only means to transport vaccines to Malaysia from all over the world.

“Unfortunately, Malaysian aviation personnel were not among the first to receive vaccine jabs rolled out by the government.

“Ironically, they are the first to ‘receive’ the vaccines when handling cargo from vaccine suppliers via air transportation. What to do, can see only lah,” the group said.

Ninermike9M said it is disheartening that the sacrifices of those in air transportation services ensure the vaccines arrived safely, but are not prioritised in the inoculation programme.

“Sorry, Datuk Seri (Wee Ka Siong) – we can no longer be silent about it and we are now breaking our silence so that you know.

“Bring this matter to the National Security Council as soon as possible about our ‘unsung aviation heroes’ who have been part of the Covid-19 vaccine transportation.” – The Vibes, June 7, 2021
