KUALA LUMPUR – Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said he raised the matter of Parliament reconvening during his audience with the king today.

The problems faced by the rakyat amid the Covid-19 pandemic have reached a serious level and must not be taken lightly, Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, told the press before leaving Istana Negara about 4pm.

“I asked for Parliament to be reopened, as done in the UK.

“In the middle of a worsening pandemic, Parliament sittings are frequently held (in the UK) because the people want to know about the government’s programmes to overcome Covid-19.

“It’s not like here, where the Covid-19 situation has worsened, but Parliament is closed.”

The Kota Raja MP arrived in a white Honda CRV about 3pm, and spent about an hour meeting the Agong.

Asked whether their conversation touched on the status of the Perikatan Nasional government, Mohamad said the matter was not discussed.

“What we talked about was the people reaching a stage where they are going to community service centres to collect food because they have no more income.

“That was what I presented to Tuanku about the people, (including) Grab drivers with no passengers.

“If they don’t have passengers, how will they eat? There are those who come to take food aid from community centres.

“The problems faced by the rakyat are serious. We cannot treat this as a trivial matter.” – The Vibes, June 9, 2021
