GEORGE TOWN – Police have arrested the man who had allegedly fed an infant with alcohol.
Southwest district police chief Kamarul Rizal Jenal said police picked up the suspect in the Teluk Bahang area at 1.30pm today.
He said the suspect, who has 14 criminal records, would be detained to facilitate investigations and a remand order would be obtained from the magistrate court to remand the suspect.
He added the baby despite appearing healthy has been admitted to the Penang Hospital for observation.
Police acted following a report by the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Tamilar Kural Malaysia chairman and Seberang Prai city councillor David Marshel at 1pm today urging the police to take action against the man for feeding alcohol to the infant.
A 30-second video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
“It is an irresponsible act by the man to feed alcohol to the baby as the innocent infant was unable to decline whatever it was being fed,” he told The Vibes.
Marshel said that as a NGO, it is his duty to bring the matter to the attention of the authorities and he urged the police to investigate and take appropriate action against the man.
He also urged the Women, Family Community Development Ministry to refer the baby to a hospital for medical check-up and act against the irresponsible man for his act, as well as keep the baby away from the adult by sheltering the infant at a safe place. – The Vibes, June 22, 2021
