KUALA LUMPUR – A Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) AS 555 SN Fennec helicopter has met with an accident following an emergency landing attempt at its base in Lumut, Perak, at noon today.

In a statement by the navy today, it said the helicopter was undergoing an operational flight and had to do an emergency landing.

“All crew members were successfully rescued and are getting check-ups at the Lumut base hospital. The incident does not involve any members of the public and was a controlled incident.

“The RMN will set up an investigation commission to pinpoint the cause of the incident.”

This is believed to be the first accident involving the air force for more than 30 years since the setting up of the navy’s air squadron, KD Rajawali, reported Kosmo.

Aside from six AS 555 SN Fennec copters, the navy also operates six Super Lynx helicopters, all with outstanding flight records.

It was also reported that the navy will issue an official statement on the incident. – The Vibes, June 28, 2021
