GEORGE TOWN – Penang police denied a shooting happened early this morning after news of it was widely shared on social media.
Northeast district police chief Soffian Santong said that in the 1.15am incident, police chased a Toyota Vios driven by a local man.
“When police wanted to detain the driver for inspection, he suddenly drove off, causing police to give chase.
“Police chased the suspect for about 20 minutes before arresting him in Jalan Jelutong after the suspect’s vehicle skidded, resulting in damaged tyres,” he said in a statement today.
Soffian said police found packets of heroin amounting to 6.5g in the back seat.
He added that the 26-year-old suspect has a police record – eight cases related to drugs and three criminal cases – and is also wanted to assist in the investigation of a criminal case.
“Urine tests conducted also found the suspect positive for methamphetamines, and he was remanded for five days under Section 186 of the Congestion Code, Section 39A (2), and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.”
Soffian said police advised the public not to spread fake news on social media to avoid public speculation. – The Vibes, October 15, 2021
